What To Expect At Your Bakersfield In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

To help you decide on the perfect window treatments for your windows, some companies, like Sunburst, start out with an in-home consultation. By taking samples to you, we can demonstate how different window treatments would look with your decor. Now you can create an informed decision by visualizing how each window treatment looks with your actual windows.

But what actually goes on during an in-home consultation? And how does bringing samples to your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Even though every in-home consultation is personalized, there are a few constants that you should expect.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Start by arranging an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make sure to bring you a variety of options available for your preferred product. We will also show additional treatments, so you can feel confident that your windows match your vision.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and discuss what you want in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency preferences, and we’ll pay special attention to hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also ask about how your windows are used and what ambiance you want to acheive. The final goal is to imagine what your windows will ultimately look like with the window treatrments installed.

You may have to see many different window treatments to discover which treatments match your decor and enhance your windows. Most clients should explore a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or finding the best stain to coordinate with the room. We’ll also find all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once a decision is made, we’ll get the exact measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in every room in your home—even if you only need to fit treatments for select rooms. We perform this service because many of our customers want to get additional shutters or blinds with just a phone call. Finally, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Signs Of A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are convinced that Sunburst will perform professional in-home consultation, there are some things you should never see from any window treatment company. It should go without saying, the quality of the consultation mirrors the quality of the product.

Primarily, your consultant should treat your home with respect. He or she should show up on time, with all samples requested, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your consultant should always bring product and company brochures and pricing information.

When it comes to price, you should always get a detailed written quote. Don’t accept a vague guess, scribbled on a product brochure or the back of a business card. And always reject pricing information if they won’t measure your windows. You should always know how much product and installation should cost. If the price ever seems sketchy or unreasonable, please ask for references and look up the store’s online reviews.
